Little Big Dairy Co was established in 2013 but our family has been farming for so much longer. We come from generations of Aussie dairy farmers. That’s how we were able to build the nation’s first single source milk production company.
Over the years our family has learned what it means to be good farmers. One of the biggest rules is that you have to give as much as you take. Grass doesn’t grow in depleted soil, and un cared for cows don’t produce good milk. Our commitment to sustainability is how we’ve become one of the best Australian owned milk companies.

Why Sustainability Matters for Australian Owned Dairy Companies
Sustainability is often used when people talk about environmental issues. It refers to a practice that has long-term feasibility. It not only works well now, it will continue to work well into the future. It can apply to the natural environment, like when a farmer cares for their soil. It also applies to economies. Shopping local is a sustainable practice because it supports the local economy, so you’re putting your money back into the system that paid you in the first place.
Why Should it Matter to Dairy Farmers?
Using sustainable practices for farming goes far beyond nurturing the soil and livestock. It means reducing waste wherever possible. It also means paying fair prices for good products, and that’s where many dairy farmers are running into trouble. It’s impossible for many of them to get a fair price for their raw product.
That’s because big companies have recently managed to take over the pricing for raw products, and they’re not playing fair. Small farms suffer greatly when the prices for their raw ingredients are driven down by these practices.

How Little Big Dairy Co Practices Sustainability
We’d been farming in our Dubbo location for nearly 10 years when we changed our business model to escape the trap of unfair pricing. If no one else would pay a fair price for our raw milk, why not just buy it from ourselves, we thought. So, that’s exactly what we did.
We sold several hundred heads of our beloved cattle to fund our very own production facility. That’s how Little Big Dairy Co was born. Using our own raw ingredients, we produce some of the freshest dairy products and milk in all of Australia. By purchasing directly from ourselves, we know we’ll get a fair price every time! Not only that, we know our raw ingredients come from farmers who treat the land like it’s home and their cows like there family.
We’re Only Going to Get Better
Our company has taken off since our humble start. We’re very grateful for this success, and that’s why we reach out to help others stuck in the pricing game. We buy all the fodder for our cattle from local farmers (or grow ourselves) and all the ingredients in our flavoured milks are fair trade certified, and hand made on site.
We may have come a long way, but we still feel as though we’re at the very beginning of our journey. Our aim is to provide our superior quality products to as many Aussie’s as possible. The more we grow, the better chance we have of changing things for other Australian owned dairy companies.
